For 60 hours, together we seek the face of God through prayer and fasting.

60 Hours of Prayer & Fasting

This is normally Tuesday midnight to Thursday noon. Check out the Events Calendar Page for details.

What Kind of Fast

Daniel fast

One of the more popular fasts is known as the Daniel Fast, after the kind of fast Daniel did.

This we see from Daniel 1:8-14.

This fast allows anyone undertaking it to still partake of both solid and liquid nourishment, alongside the spiritual nourishment which comes from the Word of God.

One of the more radical kinds of fast is one which involves eating no solid food.

If you are considering this kind of fast, please understand that this is not for everyone.

Please seek medical advise along with the Lord's guidance before undergoing this, or any other kind of fast.

entertainment fast

Entertainment, including gaming, sports, social media and many other kinds of entertainment are taking too much of our time on a daily basis.

Once we realize how these activities are keeping us away from achieving the Lord's plan and purpose for our lives, then we would know what kind we need to fast from.

The fast that's best for me

We all have limitations and individual conditions that impacts the kind of fast that we are able to do.

The Lord knows this and allows us the freedom to seek Him and ask Him for what kind of fast would work for us and will make us achieve the very purpose for which we are doing the fast for.

Why Fast

One of the most important reasons why we fast is because Jesus  fasted and He said that His disciples will do so as well.

Matthew 9:15

Mark 2:20

Luke 5:35

The church will pray and fast for various reasons. But when one does it to seek God, denying their flesh while nourishing their spirit through prayer and studying the Word of God then it's both personal and communal, both for their own benefit and for those they are praying for.

Biblical Fasting is Not a Fad, Not Dieting and Not For Show

"And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." - Jesus

Matthew 6:16-18

Daniel Stood Up for His Faith

"Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, "Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king's food be observed by you and deal with your servants according to what you see." So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food."

Daniel 1:11-15

Jesus Fasted

"And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."

Matthew 4:2-3

Jesus fasted but He was also tempted after doing so. It is important, while denying oneself of the nourishment and pleasures of this world, to partake of spiritual nourishment which comes from being in the presence of God, and reading and studying God's Word.

Jesus responded to the temptations thrown at Him, with Scriptures.
